Stories and photos from Nevada’s Red Rock Canyon.
\n\nSometimes it’s easy to forget just how beautiful the world is.
I’ve spent my whole life in metropolitan cities – Hong Kong, Boston, and New York City. I can count the number of times I’ve gone hiking or camping on my two hands. With that said, I do genuinely enjoy hiking (not camping). I just don’t do it enough.
Today, thanks to my friend Tyler, I finally made my way over to Red Rock Canyon after moving to Las Vegas three months ago.
It was a perfect late afternoon to go on a hike. Not too hot, not too cold.\n\n\n\n
I live in Spring Valley, and I work on the Strip. It’s always loud. Red Rock Canyon was comparatively… serene.\n
\nI don’t remember the last time I was somewhere this quiet. Now I understand what people mean when they say “silence is deafening”.\n
\nTyler was all geared up with a water pack, food, flashlight, and a knife. What did I bring? A camera, water bottle, and my Amex card. I promise I’ll be more prepared next time.\n
\nHere are a few photos from our hike.\n
It started getting dark 45 minutes in, so we made our way back to the car.\n
\nToday’s hike was a short-lived one, but I’m excited to come back soon to explore the other trails. I think I’ve found my local escape.
